THE WHITE STRIPES CALL IT QUITS

Despite indications that 2011 would bring a long-awaited 7th album from The White Stripes, this morning Jack & Meg White announced that the band has "officially ended and will make no further new recordings or perform live." They go on to explain that they are not splitting up due to artistic differences or health problems, but onlly because they want to preserve what the White Stripes were able to accomplish without tarnishing its image with new music that doesn't connect to the original artistic direction.
