DIAMOND RING WINNER!
The St. Vincent de Paul Society has tallied the final total from 94X's Community Christmas fundraiser. Board Chair Bernie Goold says Prince George residents have donated $19,248.36 in cash and gift cards. As well as filling a 52 foot trailer full of food and toys to create Christmas hampers for families in need. "One mom actually came with a backpack to pick hers up and was absolutely just in tears when she realized that it was two large boxes of food plus a bag of toys." One woman who donated to the fundraiser has won a diamond ring from Jewellery Direct for giving back to the community. Sheila Keith says she would have donated even if there was no prize as she believes in the work done by the society. "Tireless work for people who really do need it and just so thankful that somebody does it. It's easy for people to drop off a bag or two of whatever their donation is or a gift card, but it's all of that work that makes it happen. Goold says there is still food left over after hampers were handed out, which will help feed people in January and February. |
