Kid Rock does not plan to turn 40 quietly. At the singer's annual Halloween party Saturday night (Oct 30) in his suburban Detroit rehearsal hall, Rock told the gathering of family, friends and radio programmers flown in from around the country that he would be the subject of a Comedy Central roast on his birthday, Jan. 17, at Detroit's Fox Theatre. Details for the roast are currently being worked out, though Rock also announced plans to perform a special, guest-filled birthday concert at Detroit's Ford Field, to be renamed "Forty Field" for the occasion, in proximity to the roast.

British hard rock legends IRON MAIDEN have posted a new graphic on their official website ironmaiden.com of Eddie holding the Earth in his hand, with the geographical area focusing on the North Pacific Ocean and the Indian Ocean, fuelling rumors that that band will be announcing live dates in that area early next year - either before or after their headline/Soundwave Festival run in Australia in February. The official announcement will be made on Tuesday, November 2nd at 5PM

ROBERT PLANT has revealed how he was ready to quit LED ZEPPELIN and become a teacher when his young son died. The 62 year old said the death of his six-year-old son Karac Pendragon from a virus in 1977 made him reassess his life and he decided to turn his back on the band. He said: “All of us had been thinking about what would happen next because the illusion had run its course. I’d already lost my boy and then you think: ‘I really have to decide what to do.’ I applied to become a teacher in the Rudolf Steiner education system. I was accepted to go to teacher training college in 1978. I was really quite keen to just walk.”  In the end it was the band’s drummer, John Bonham, who convinced Plant that training as a teacher for the progressive Steiner school system would not be right for him.
