Rock star Lenny Kravitz has been presented with one France's highest cultural awards. Culture minister Frederic Mitterrand made the musician an Officer of the Order of Arts and Letters at a ceremony in Paris. He told Kravitz, whose hits include Let Love Rule and Are You Gonna Go My Way, "you freed yourself of the barriers between black and white sound". The star said he got his first break at a French music festival in 1989. The Trans Musicales festival in Rennes transformed his career "overnight", he told the Associated Press news agency. "I know it sounds like a fairy tale but it's true," he said. He added that he was "particularly touched" to be decorated in France, a country that believed in him when he was misunderstood at home.

JIMI HENDRIX - HEY JOE

JIMI HENDRIX' music and legacy is being transformed into a new park, set to open next year for what would have been his 70th birthday. Designs for the Jimi Hendrix Park, which will be located in the Central District, will be revealed tonight during a public meeting at the Northwest African American Museum at 6:30 p.m. Members of the Friends of Jimi Hendrix Park, Murase Associates and Seattle Parks Department staff will be available during the meeting to discuss the design, fund raising events and community volunteer opportunities. Themes found in his music are planned to be artistically represented in the 2.5-acre park park though lyrical stepping stones, rain drums, a sculpted butterfly garden, performance area, sound garden and a green space.
