Lawyers representing Canadian rockers Rush have ordered an U.S. politician to stop using their music as part of his Senate campaign. The musicians are said to have been left fuming after discovering Kentucky's Republican candidate Rand Paul had been using their tracks during public events and in online adverts as he seeks election to office. The news comes just weeks after former Talking Heads star David Byrne filed a $1 million lawsuit against Florida Governor Charlie Crist, alleging he used hit Road To Nowhere in his campaign without permission.

The Beastie Boys have been dormant since Adam "MCA" Yauch began his battle against cancer in summer 2009, but the musician has kept busy with his Oscilloscope Laboratories production company, which has acquired the rights to release a new documentary film about influential Beat poet-writer, junkie extraordinaire, and counter culture icon William S. Burroughs. William S. Burroughs: A Man Within is expected in U.S. theatres this fall, with a DVD and digital release to follow. Directed by Yony Leyser, the film features never-before-seen archive video footage of the author, plus interviews with Iggy Pop, Gus Van Zant, Jello Biafra, Patti Smith, and Sonic Youth's Thurston Moore and Lee Ranaldo, who worked with Burroughs on the 1990 spoken word album Dead City Radio. Sonic Youth and Smith have teamed up to record the doc's soundtrack. Burroughs, who also worked with Kurt Cobain on a spoken word album and appeared in a U2's "Last Night on Earth" music video, died in 1997.

Disturbed bring the heavy as well as many bands in the business, but their upcoming “Asylum” album also dives into darker depths as well. Singer David Draiman tells us, “I know we had a very vague preliminary conversation about [the direction of the album], but the guys knew what headspace I was in prior to starting the writing cycle…..I needed to start off with dark aggression and they certainly were delivering it and then some.” The vocalist says that coming off a tour in which he split with his former fiancé, had friends betray him, and suffered the death of his dog while away from home really left him with plenty to deal with and the band keyed into that musically, presenting him with the music for the songs he wanted to make. Disturbed’s “Asylum” album is expected later this year.
