A big happy 50th birthday goes out today (Feb. 6) to Axl Rose, one of the most charismatic, talented and yes, polarizing lead singers to ever pick up a microphone. All too frequently, the Guns N’ Roses frontman is discussed in terms more suited to the gossip columns, but let’s never forget that our record collections would be a lot more boring without the music he helped create. Oh, and that he and his bandmates pretty much saved the world from a complete hair-metal takeover. Happy Birthday Axl!

SLASH - BACK FROM CALI

Just minutes after I saw a report that Slash wrapped up recording his second solo album, news came across that the disc will be released May 22. The as-yet-untitled effort will come out on Slash’s own label, Dik Hayd International. In addition to announcing the release date, Slash has unveiled a video of behind the scenes footage of the making of the album, which features vocals by Alter Bridge singer Myles Kennedy.

Lenny Kravitz has been enjoying Super Bowl weekend, but his reasons are more personal than sports-related. The rocker had a chance to reconnect with some NFL legends whom he's had connections with in the past. Kravitz said Sunday that Joe Namath used to live across the street from him when he was growing up and the Hall of Famer used to play catch with him. He got a chance to meet up with Namath recently and reconnected with him on Saturday night at the NFL Honors. The musician also chatted with another great, Jim Brown, who was a friend of his mother's, actress Roxie Roker. Kravitz was one of the performers at the NFL official tailgate party at Lucas Oil Stadium on Sunday.Lenny is finishing up a new album that should hit stores later this year! Bob Marley – The reggae great would have been 67. Bob's son, Ziggy Marley posted some thoughts on his website today. "I remember us celebrating one of his birthdays in Jamaica at 56 Hope Road with him, no big superstar party, just us kids, Mommy, some cake, few laughs and that was it. Even if he wasn't known to the world on Feb 6th I would still think of him and in my heart say Happy Birthday Daddy. Love." - Ziggy Marley
