HAIL THE VILLAIN - TAKE BACK THE FEAR

Hail The Villain is joining the boycott of BP after the recent oil spill disaster. The upstart rockers say that while they aren’t big on political statements, this is something they can truly get behind. Singer Bryan Crouch tells Noisecreep.com, “We are politically charged people, but as far as being a politically charged band, we don’t like to go out on a limb and talk about things like that unless we know what we’re talking about or feel reasonably passionate about it.” Crouch says the blame shouldn’t lie with just BP. He adds, “I think it’s also Transocean and Haliburton, as well as the American government with the sheer consumption. What really comes out of this is awareness, first of all. Whenever musicians take a stand against something, it helps put the awareness out to hundreds of thousands more people than would be knowing about a cause. Americans need to know that their consumption of oil – 20 million barrels a day – is absolutely absurd.” The vocalist says he doesn’t see this boycott as just anti-BP, but also a stand against the oil industry, and that cleanup results and not financial factors should be the top consideration.

CAGE THE ELEPHANT – AIN’T NO REST FOR THE WICKED

Why Cage the Elephant: "We were in Knoxville, Tennessee, hanging outside a club after a show—this is probably in 2006," remembers singer Matthew Shultz, "and we saw this guy with a shaved head and a long goatee yelling and screaming and talking to himself. I'm pretty sure he had some mental issues going on. He all of a sudden beelined towards us. Everyone jumped into our car and shut the doors. But I didn't make it into the car. I was stuck outside. I thought for sure the guy was gonna stab me or something, but then he came up to me and gave me a hug. The whole time he was saying, 'You have to cage the elephant, you have to cage the elephant.' Afterwards, I was like, 'We gotta name the band that.'"

Muse was honored with the O2 Silver Clef Award in London on Friday. Billboard reports the Brit rockers were given the award by Queen's Roger Taylor and Brian May, who called Muse "probably the greatest live act in the world today" and "a magnificent, incredible group." The Silver Clef Awards ceremony also included a charity auction to benefit the Nordoff Robbins music therapy charity, to which Muse offered a custom-made guitar that frontman Matt Bellamy had only played once ever. The band's own booking agent won the guitar with a bid of over $50,000.
