1993 – The Last Action Hero soundtrack, featuring AC/DC’s “Big Gun” and Def Leppard’s “Two Steps Behind,” as well as tracks from Alice In Chains, Cypress Hill, Anthrax, and Tesla, arrived in stores. I was 11 at the time and this soundtrack didn't leave my walkmen for about 3 months!!
AC/DC - BIG GUN Deep Purple bassist Roger Glover is sick of rock bands being compared to Metallica when they decide to work with orchestral instruments. Glover's outfit have just started a tour with a 28-piece orchestra, but it's not their first foray into such waters – they recorded then-keyboardist Jon Lord's Concerto for Group and Orchestra in 1969. "When you mention rock bands and orchestras everyone says, 'Oh, like Metallica,'" the bassist says. "It sticks in my throat a little bit – nothing against Metallica, but bands have been doing it way before Metallica." ------------------------BREAK-------------------- Ozzy Osbourne has promised to make a dying 14-year-old fan's wish come true by visiting him – if he can hold on long enough. The Prince of Darkness is currently on tour in Europe but he was told about the plight of Californian Kyle Rodas, who's entering the last stages of a battle with a brain tumor. The youngster is a fan of Ozzy, Linkin Park and Green Day. He'd love to meet any of his heroes and his mum Marty Valle recently pleaded: "Anyone who can help grant his wish, please do it." Osbourne rose to the occasion: On Monday he called Rodas at home, and said he'd pay him a visit in person as soon as his European tour was over. Ozzy gets back to California on August 7th. In the meantime Chester Benington will visit the teen this afternoon and Ozzy spent some time on the phone with the youngster yesterday!
OZZY OSBOURNE - MAMA I'M COMING HOME Toronto rockers DANKO JONES have announced that drummer Atom Willard will be joining them on the road this summer, replacing Dan Cornelius who is no longer with the band. With a history in bands like ROCKET FROM THE CRYPT, THE OFFSPRING, and SOCIAL DISTORTION, and being a current member of ANGELS & AIRWAVES, the experience and talent Atom is bringing to the band will be the beginning of a very exciting new chapter. "Both JC and I have been fans of Atom Willard for years," Danko said. "We own the records he's on and hell, we even wrote a song about his old band ['RIP RFTC' about Rocket From The Crypt]. Yes, we're ecstatic he's coming out with us." ---------------------BREAK-------------------- KISS' Gene Simmons has entered into the debate on what the return of Winnipeg's NHL team should be named.
