Motley Crue will receive the coveted Elmer Valentine Award for their contributions to the Sunset Strip music scene during the fourth annual Sunset Strip music festival this August. Drummer Tommy Lee says, “It’s an honor to be recognized by the Sunset Strip Music Festival. It means a lot to us that we are recognized for our contribution to this historic place.” The band got their start playing shows at The Roxy Theatre and Whisky A Go-Go back in the ‘80s, and they filmed their “Kickstart My Heart” video at The Whisky. In addition to an August 18th ceremony at the House Of Blues, the City Of West Hollywood will also recognize the band with a special day in their honor. The fourth annual Sunset Strip Music Festival runs August 18th-20th. Acts will be revealed in the coming months.

It appears that the long-rumored reunion of The Darkness is getting into swing with the launch of a website, a Facebook page and a rapidly-circulating fan-made trailer video on YouTube. The website, TheActualDarkness.com, launched recently with the semi-cryptic message "The Darkness >> As Promised" across the top of the site, along with a link to the band's Facebook page, an e-mail subscription field and a button to post about the site on Twitter. The site's meta data lists the names of band members Justin Hawkins, Dan Hawkins, Ed Graham and Frankie Poullain (as opposed to his 2005 replacement Richie Edwards) as keywords. Meanwhile a fan-made trailer for the reunion is being passed around online by excited fans (and mistaken for an official video by more than a few online forumites).

Rocker Gene Simmons is heading back to Israel for the first time in more than 50 years to explore his Jewish roots. The KISS star, born Chaim Witz, emigrated to America with his mother Flora, a Holocaust survivor, at the age of eight after his parents divorced, and he has never returned.  But the 61 year old is now planning a trip with his girlfriend, former Playboy model Shannon Tweed, as part of his reality TV show Gene Simmons Family Jewels, according to the New York Post.  The bass player will visit the hospital where he was born, in Haifa, and he hopes to be reunited with long-lost relatives, and meet the half-siblings and cousins he has never known.  He will also tour the Tel Aviv and Jerusalem during the trip.
