2004 – Velvet Revolver debuted at #1 with their album “Contraband.”

VELVET REVOLVER - SLITHER
METALLICA - FUEL

The speculation around the mysterious new Metallica project has now ended with the surprising news that the metal veterans have just completed recording a new album with rock legend Lou Reed. Here is what the band had to say: A few months ago, our own Kirk Hammett hinted at a new Metallica project that's "not really 100 percent a Metallica record." While Kirk may have jumped the gun a little (and has since been properly punished with a series of push-ups!), we are more than proud to announce that we have just completed recording a full length album that is a collaboration with none other than the legendary Lou Reed. Metallica played with Lou at the 25th anniversary of the Rock Hall of Fame!

A reader sent Punknews.org an account of a recent Against Me! show in Rochester, NY that ended rather strangely after it was alledged that the venue, Water Street Music Hall, was overcharging for tickets at the door. Frontman Tom Gabel was alerted via twitter and took the venue to task, demanding that fans in attendance be refunded the difference both prior to and during the band's set. After Gabel called out the venue's practices while onstage, members of the crowd and security guards ended up in a scuffle, which ended with the house lights coming up, guitars and mic stands being hurled intro the crowd and what sounds like an awful lot of chaos. Will there be charges here? I hope so. A Charge of Theft to the venue seems appropriate!

AGAINST ME - THRASH UNREAL
JUDAS PRIEST - TURBO LOVER

Judas Priest were named Icons at the 9th annual Metal Hammer Golden God Awards in London Monday night. The metal legends recently launched their Epitaph tour, billed as the band's final world trip, although they are working on new music and will play smaller series of dates in the future. Rob Zombie was named Golden God, as the metal and movie man received his honor from Alice Cooper; earlier this year, it was the other way around, as Zombie inducted Alice into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame. Other big winners included Iron Maiden (Best UK Band), Twisted Sister (Inspiration Award) and Avenged Sevenfold (Best International Band), among others.
