VELVET REVOLVER - FALL TO PIECES
OZZY OSBOURNE - CRAZY TRAIN

Most of us were not lucky enough to have seen Guitar god Randy Rhoads play live before his tragic Death in March of 82. This is why every piece of footage of Randy is so valuble! Well, Before he rocked the world with OZZY OSBOURNE, late guitar great Randy Rhoads blazed it up with QUIET RIOT and I have tracked down some classic footage! This audience-shot footage is from Randy performing an extended guitar solo with QUIET RIOT – during a show at the Starwood on 10/25/79 (while portions of this show have been circulated — the extended footage presented here has not). "Blizzard of Ozz" would ultimately be released on September 20, 1980 in the UK and on March 27, 1981 in the United States. "Blizzard of Ozz", considered one of heavy metal’s greatest albums, has sold over 6,000,000 copies worldwide. This coming December 6 is Randy’s birthday, and had he lived the ‘forever young’ pioneer of neo-classical metal would be staring down 54 years of age. One thing is for sure, Randy’s six string wizardry will never be forgotten.

Sometimes superstition plays a role in how acts create their music, but for Default singer Dallas Smith, that might not be the healthiest way to go. The singer laughingly tells us, "I had this little superstition going. The first record that I recorded, I was smoking and drinking my face off – like a pack a day and going out and drinking and not taking care of my voice at all and the second and third record I was very conscious about how I came across. The second and third record I think a lot of that personality that came out in that first record was missing, so I purposely took up smoking again and drinking heavily."

DEFAULT - TURN IT ON
GREEN DAY - BRAIN STEW

Green Day credit alcohol for making them better live performers. Singer Billie Joe Armstrong tells Q magazine, "Around ‘Insomniac,’ we became a s***tier live band. We began playing arenas and we didn’t really know how to play them that well and at the same time we started becoming a lot more introverted. Then we started drinking a lot more. Being drunk on stage, your inhibitions are gone. Most of the stuff we’ve come up with, like bringing someone up to sing with us or running around in drag, that’s all from being liquored up."
