1973 – Pink Floyd began recording "Dark Side Of The Moon."

PINK FLOYD - MONEY
AC/DC - SHOOK ME ALL NIGHT LONG

Tragedy hit Salt Lake City on this day in 1991. AC/DC were playing the downtown Salt Palace, a huge event for Utah's rock and roll fraternity. Fans lined up for hours, many waiting overnight to purchase the prized tickets. The venue sold over 13,000 tickets for the show, with more than 4000 of those labeled as general admission, or festival style, seating. Those 4000 had no assigned seats, a factor that would lead to tragedy as the concert got underway. 12 years earlier in 1979, 11 people were crushed and trampled to death at The Who's concert in Cincinnati. After that horrible tragedy, many venues banned festival style seating. History, however, would repeat itself this night in Salt Lake City as the crowd surged, and those in the front fell down, pushed by the heaving weight of bodies behind them. Three fans, Jimmie Boyd Jr., 14, Curtis White Child, 14, and Elizabeth Glausi, 19, were killed.

Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood has been recalling the time he lived in a London flat with Jimi Hendrix. Ronnie neglected to house train his pet dog and the rock and roll pair were evicted. Ronnie said: "I shared a flat with Jimi in Notting Hill Gate for a couple of weeks. He was quite a gentle flatmate. He gave me a dog, a basset hound called Loopy. We were living with Pat Arnold, who was the singer in The Ikettes, but she threw me and Jimi out because the dog kept s***ting everywhere." Aside from the dog mess, Ronnie has fond musical memories of living with Hendrix: "We did used to sit on the bed and exchange ideas on the guitar. He could flip it over and play equally well left or right-handed. Like Ronnie O'Sullivan with the snooker cue."

JIMI HENDRIX - HEY JOE
VAN HALEN - HOT FOR TEACHER

The rumor mill has been churning for months, but it appears Van Halen are heading into the studio to record a new studio album with Grammy-winning producer John Shanks (Bon Jovi, Keith Urban, Pink, Celine Dion). Melodicrock.com is reporting the band will be joined in the studio by original frontman David Lee Roth for their first new studio album since 1998's Van Halen III. It will be Roth's first new album with Eddie and Alex since 1983's 1984. There is no word about a completion date for the album nor any subsequent tour, though Melodicrock.com reports that Eddie is not interested in touring without new music in his quiver.
