OZZY - CRAZY TRAIN
Ozzy Osbourne has extended his medical credentials - he's now offering health and diet tips and life lessons as a monthly columnist in Rolling Stone magazine. The rocker hit the headlines earlier this year when he started offering medical advice to Sunday Times readers in the U.K. and now he's offering American fans the wisdom of his hellraising life in music magazine Rolling Stone's new Ask Dr. Ozzy column. In his first piece, published in the new issue of the publication, Osbourne offers tips to a Hawaiian desperate to give up beer and lose weight and a Los Angeles fan who has just found out her teenage son is surfing for pornography online. Ozzy also weighs in on a Turkish fan's vertigo issues, suggesting he "go to bed, drink only water, then get up and walk around in circles for a bit. If you're still dizzy, let me know." He adds, "I thought I had vertigo... I went to the doctor, and he said, 'Mr. Osbourne, the problem - as far as I can tell - is simply that you're very, very drunk."

Judas Priest vocalist Rob Halford is speaking about the recent suicides by gay teenagers as a result of bullying. The musician told About.com, "I think, more than anything, it’s a picture of the way life is. You have all this sexting going on, and cyberbullying going on. It’s absolutely heartbreaking when people are driven to the point where they are taking their own lives." Halford credits celebs like Ellen DeGeneres and Neil Patrick Harris for speaking out and showing support of gay teens. He adds, "They are far more articulate than I." But the vocalist has his own message to send, and he explains, "The most important thing is to show the love and support that is out there for everybody, whether you’re being bullied or not. It’s important to look after each other and to nurture each other, especially in your school years….Don’t feel alone. There’s a way we can help each other get through these types of difficulties." The vocalist encourages school programs to be installed and reinforced and feels that parental interaction could help kids through some of their toughest times.

Ronnie Van Zant
January 15, 1948 – October 20, 1977
Ronnie Van Zant was the singer and main songwriter for southern rock powerhouse, Lynyrd Skynyrd, the band he formed in 1964 with fellow high school classmates. The band slugged it out on the road in and around the southeast region of the U.S. until they got their break by getting signed to MCA Records in 1972. The following year, they released their debut album, pronounced leh-nerd skin-nerd, which included such future hits and Southern rock staples as "Gimme Three Steps," "Tuesday’s Gone," and of course, "Free Bird." The hits continued to roll in and the band soon found them self touring with such bands as the Who and the Rolling Stones. By late 1977, the band was as popular as any in America, had just completed their Street Survivors album, and were in the middle of what was to be their biggest tour yet. But then one of popular music’s worst tragedies struck. On October 20, 1977, while flying between shows in Greenville, South Carolina and Baton Rouge, Louisiana, their small chartered plane experienced engine trouble causing it to crash outside of Gillsburg, Mississippi. Dead on impact were band members, Ronnie Van Zant (29), Cassie Gaines (29), Steve Gaines (28), road manager, Dean Kilpatrick, the pilot and co-pilot.
