WEEZER - UNDONE
ROLLING STONES - SATISFACTION

The Rolling Stones are planning a tour in 2010 but it may not feature Ronnie Wood because his drinking has reportedly gotten out of hand in the past year. The Daily Mail reports the 62-year-old guitarist's lifestyle issues mean the band can't get insurance for the tour, and so much money is at stake it would be impossible to plan the trek without a backup policy. In the past the band relied on Wood's wife Jo to keep him in line - but they divorced earlier this year after he was revealed to be having an affair with 21-year-old Ekaterina Ivanova.

Sonisphere appears to have stolen a march over Download for 2010, after announcing Iron Maiden, Rammstein, Alice, Iggy and almost certainly the Big Four of thrash – but Download promoter Andy Copping isn't rattled. He's confident the news he has to share will "blow people away." Well, Rock Radio reckons it will probably involve AC/DC, Kiss, Guns n’Roses, Bon Jovi and perhaps some kind of Aerosmith. But while that’s good, does it stand up to Maiden and the Big Four? Not quite.

But Led Zeppelin would.

Here’s my thinking… Jimmy Page has announced he’s going to have a new music project starting early next year, and the main reason for doing that is he wants to play live again. So he could easily be at Download. Them Crooked Vultures are proving themselves as a force to be reckoned with – and there’s no doubt Dave Grohl and John Paul Jones are a powerful rhythm section, with Grohl outed as Bonhamesque in drumming style. Robert Plant knows that too – he went to see the Vultures earlier this week and had a long drink with Grohl, who was behind persuading Jones to join his band. Grohl has influence, and Copping is a master of getting bands back together. So you have Grohl, Copping, Page and Jones all at Download in June – there’s only one thing missing: Plant. But given there’s been no fall-out amongst Led Zep, and given that Plant has no real problems with the band but doesn’t want to tour with them any more… It all makes sense, doesn’t it? Wonderful, wonderful sense. Pity it’s just a rumour…
