Soundgarden's reunion has rescued bassist Ben Shepherd from the hell of being homeless, he says. The Seattle four-piece got back together at the beginning of the year. They played their first show since 1997 in their home town on April 16. Black Rain, a track recorded in 1991 but not released, heads up the career retrospective album Telephantasm due in October. For Shepherd, 41, the reactivation couldn't come soon enough – he's been living on friends' sofas since he split up with his girlfriend and needs the money. On top of that, he doesn't believe they should ever have split up. He tells Spin: "I live nowhere – literally. I've been sleeping on studio couches and at friends' houses. I'm totally broke. My overcoat is my home now." Shepherd is co-owner of a bar but spends any takings on his solo album, even though he's unsure whether he'll release it.

According to The Pulse of Radio, Disturbed kicked off its headlining stint on the very first Uproar Festival tour on Tuesday (August 17) by unveiling its massive new stage show (see video below), which HardDrive Radio called "a total assault of the senses." The production features a tremendous amount of visuals on huge Led screens, state-of-the-art pyrotechnics and an opening film in which singer David Draiman is seen in an asylum before seeming to burst out of the screen and onto the stage. The Uproar Festival tour, which also stars Avenged Sevenfold, Stone Sour, Hellyeah and Halestorm, pulls into Council Bluffs, Iowa on Friday (August 20). Disturbed has just released a video for the title track from its new album, "Asylum", which arrives on August 31.
