NEIL YOUNG - ROCKIN IN THE FREE WORLD
Steel guitarist Ben Keith has died of unknown causes at the age of 73, according to RollingStone.com. Keith was known for playing with Neil Young over the past 40 years, as well as being a session musician and producer. The multi-talented Keith played guitar, piano, saxophone and pedal steel, among other instruments. He played on Young songs from "Old Man" to "Rockin’ in the Free World." He also was part of almost every one of the Canadian rocker’s non-Crazy Horse touring bands. Keith did plenty of work outside of Young’s tours and records. He played on albums by Warren Zevon, The Band and Todd Rundgren. He also produced Jewel’s 1995 blockbuster, Pieces of You. Keith last played with Young at last October’s Bridge School Benefit. The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer made mention of his friend’s passing at last night’s performance in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Introducing "Old Man," Young said, "This is for Ben Keith. His spirit will live on. The Earth has taken him."
