1995 – Jimi Hendrix’ father James Al Hendrix won back the rights to his son’s name, likeness image and music after a number of companies had profited from them over the years.
JIMI HENDRIX - HEY JOE The Red Hot Chili Peppers played a surprise gig in Big Sur, CA last night, their first with new guitarist Josh Klinghoffer and live percussionist Mauro Refosco as part of the lineup. According to Rolling Stone, the band played outdoors at a local cultural center/book store/library for roughly 300 people. The band played mostly new material from their upcoming record I'm With You, along with a handful of earlier tunes. Rolling Stone says the Chilis will play two more surprise shows on the West Coast this weekend, before heading overseas for an Asian tour. --------------------BREAK----------------- Twentieth anniversary celebrations for classic Nirvana album Nevermind have been dealt a blow after Facebook decided to remove the cover art from its pages because of its anti-nudity rules. The famous work shows a naked baby swimming in a pool, which the social media company says violates its terms of use, explaining: “Facebook does not allow photos that attack an individual or group, or that contain nudity, drug use or violence. But plan for a special edition of the album will go ahead including four CDs and a DVD, of which only 40,000 will ever be made. It’s due for release in September. An update was posted 2 hours ago stating that Facebook has backed down and has unblocked the image! The naked baby is back!
NIRVANA - SMELLS LIKE TEEN SPIRIT ZZ Top's new album is now finished, being mixed, and will be released in the fall of 2011. Billy Gibbons tells Mojo magazine, "It sounds and feels like Tres Hombres, with a few elements of the Eliminator period thrown in. A pretty wide range, from basic blues to slightly more fancy stuff. Gibbons revealed that some of the songs were inspired by Blues legend BB King! The sessions have been produced by Rick Rubin (Red Hot Chili Peppers, Johnny Cash, Metallica,).
