A planned Jimi Hendrix biopic has been respectfully dropped at the request of Experience Hendrix, overseers of the Hendrix estate. The film had secured financing from Legendary Pictures, and Oscar-nominated director Paul Greengrass had committed to the project. The Hurt Locker's Anthony Mackie was set to star in the film. But Deadline New York reports that the Hendrix estate was concerned that the movie could possibly hurt sales of the back catalog, which Deadline says supposedly happened to The Doors catalog following Oliver Stone's biopic. Just a couple years ago Janie Hendrix, CEO of Experience Hendrix, came out in an interview and said that she would do her best to make sure everyone heard the Story of Jimi Hendrix and that she wasn't doing this as a cash grab. Shutting down a biopic because she was afraid it would affect sales of the back catalogue? Sounds like a cash grab to me....

Though rumors of a new Queens of the Stone Age album have fit nicely alongside the band’s 2010 reissues, we now have official word that the followup to 2007’s Era Vulgaris is indeed on the way. In a new interview with Billboard, guitarist/keyboardist Dean Fertita confirmed that band will begin recording their sixth LP in January. And 2k11 just got all that much more insane.
